Even though the general Galleria area and Westgate is terrible, Grady is a pretty good school. They were very concerned with how our son was doing after transferring from a different state and I got to know some of the staff members. La Mar, one of the "top" schools for 9th and above is riddled with bureaucracy. Truly a joke! Old and decrepit (referring to the staff AND grounds), this school is no way a top performing school. Maybe for the ghetto- I mean area. Seriously, if you can legitimately move from the area, there are much safer and quieter neighborhoods and better schools for the same $. I understand if you have to make due for whatever reason; like we did at first. However, if you like downtown Los Angeles or Chicago, then never mind. We really enjoy "new" Katy around Cinco Ranch. Night and day difference! And we have lived in many different states and good/bad areas- so this advice might be of use. Attitudes are stranger and "stronger" the further you live in the city. We have been told about how Houston has all of this "Southern Hospitality" but that's not really the RIGHT NAME. Houston has changed (and not for the better) over the last 20 years. Great for income, terrible for crime, safety and manners. The further out you go i.e. Katy, Friendswood, etc. it changes dramatically. Just like any major city. We have had to move a few times in our lives just for the schools. Many blessings to you and your kid.
