Does anyone have any tips on how to beat westdale parke at their own game?

I took the tour of the apartment complex and model apartment, and everything seemed fine. I gave them my $430 for the application fees, deposit and what not. I got home and found this website and now i'm scared. Please help me out!

you obviously signed a lease then. check over your lease and see if there is a time stipulation for deciding not to move in. a penalty perhaps? i think there is something like 48 hours but i could definitely be wrong about that so dont quote me. ive lived here for 2 years now and ive been fortunate enough to not have had any of the problems the other tenants describe. ironically ive had a very good experience here, so it is possible. i actually know a little about tenant rights etc, so i can try and help you if possible. good luck!

Tips to help out (ie Stuff I Wish I Had Done):

1) Get every single promise, cost, ANYTHING that involves maintenance, money, deposits - get all of these things in writing. You have the right as a tenant to request these things and it will allow you to legally argue with them if an issue comes up, rather then falling back on an empty "well I was told..."

2) As soon as you move in, take photos of EVERYTHING (and make sure they are dated) - so that when you move out and they charge you for a bunch of damage and cleaning fees, you can prove that all items are in the same condition as when you moved in.

3) Threaten litigation when they break your lease. This includes things as dangerous as them not cleaning mold out of vents, and things as creepy as the maintenance guys entering your apartment all the time without notice. The lease you signed legally binds them to following the procedures, it's not optional behavior.

Then again it might be possible to terminate your lease without penalty in a certain timeframe.

There's a place called Juniper Springs around the corner, and although I didn't end up moving there after leaving Greystone Parke, I did think about it and DEFINITELY wish I would have lived there instead of Greystone.

Good luck to you!
