Advice from anyone please!

Asked 355 days ago

I am a young, single girl going to IUPUI looking for an off-campus apartment that is still downtown and close to campus. I want a one bedroom, one bath, and I prefer to live alone. BUT, I REALLY am wanting to make sure the place I live in is safe and secure. I know how bad the crime can and is in Indianapolis. So if anyone can give me advice on if this is a suitable place for me or not would really help! I want to make a good decision and I have been apartment searching for forever & the prices in downtown Indy are so high! This is the only place I really like that has tall ceilings, able to paint & have animals, downtown, gated parking....etc. Can anyone tell me what the rent is for a 1 bedroom at St. Agnes? I know the apartments vary in size, but just a general idea. I cannot afford anything really above $600. Thanks to anyone who can help me out with great advice!

I am also a young single girl going to IUPUI and have lived here over a year. I think St. Agnes itself is very safe, although the area around it is not very good. As long as you're not walking around alone at night, it's fine. My rent is $585, but I know some of the apts are cheaper than mine, it just depends on what is available. When I first looked here, there was an apt up on the 5th floor that I think was right around 500. Hope this answers your questions!

Jamie,

I think almost all the rents in the St. Agnes bldg are less than $600. As far as safety goes, I have lived here for 4 years and never had a security problem, inside or outside the building. I am a single guy, so my experience may be slightly different, but I have never heard of any problems either, and I know quite a few people in the building. The gated parking will secure your parking spot, but I think vagrants will occasionally come through and prowl for change. I've never actually seen one, but I have found change missing from my (unlocked) car. Still, I wouldn't count them as a danger. So, I'd recommend the place personally. I see the other residents all the time, and they all seem pretty sane and friendly, and to me, that's the best security feature of all. Good luck to you!
