roommates didn't pay rent - take them to civil court?

I moved out and the roommates left behind didn't pay the rent. Can I take them to civil court so that they have to pay my share to the landlord. A sublet had moved in but I didn't sign a sublet lease with him.

this backyard is nasty (this is not the only one) a pit bull lives here and the lease says no dogs more that 30lbs this dogs barks ALL the time and at kids too. Yards should be kept up with and its not. ( you cant see but there is dog poo everywhere).
