i was wondering the pet policy and what people can usually get away with?

Asked 248 days ago

i just came back today from looking at buying a condo at pacific isles. i read the hoa dog restrictions and it says since 05 they have not allowed any dog over 10lbs. when i was there i saw like 10 dogs over at least 50lbs. maybe they all moved in before 05. but i was wondering if thats their policy but they will give exceptions? or is there a way to get around it? i have a 50lb dog and he is a sweetheart. i rescued him from the pound and i would never take him back or give him up. this condo is in the only area i want to be in and at the price range that i can afford. its a foreclosure and i dont want to let it pass me by. ill be a first time home owner. im so excited. i dont want chubbs (my dog) to be the deal breaker in this :( what do you think? thanks so much. if anyone who lives there wants to email me, you can and let me know whats up there. my email is jewels8697@gmail.com thanks!!!!

Your dog will not be happy at Pac Isle. The condos are small, the hallways narrow, etc. The common areas are pretty crowded with people walking, relaxing, enjoying the nice landscaping, playing tennis, etc. A 50 lbs dog would not fit in that environment. Are you going to have him locked up inside the condo while you go to work? Dogs that are quiet and well-behaved when their owners are around become either depressed and sleepy OR become loud barkers when they are left locked inside a small place. Not good for the doggie.

the condos are on the smaller side, but its bigger than what we live in now. hes fine in our apartment. we wear his butt out with long walks and trips to dog beach all most daily.
i appreciate your concern, but no i wont have him locked inside the condo while im gone. my boyfriend and i work differnt hours and except for wednesday, one of us is home. he does get left alone while were out grocery shopping or whatever but at some point all dogs do. and hes ok. not a barker, my neighbors frequently comment on how they forget hes here cause of how quiet he is. we take care of him. hes my baby! haha. besides i was outside there for a total of maybe 15 min and i saw at least 10 dogs well over 60lbs. german shepards, a fat pit bull, a lab, a husky too. just to name some i made a mental note about. i just want to know how i can get in there and have him be ok with hoa.

The Rules state that no dogs are allowed over 20lbs. In July of 2007, the board sent out a dog registration form and grandfathered anyone who registered dogs over 20lbs if they registered before August 1st. Since August 1st, if any dogs over 20lbs are onsite, and the premises are monitored and need to know the unit numbers for legal action. Registered dogs are easily identified as they should display a Pacific Isle dog tag anytime they are outside of the unit. The Board has not given any exceptions to this rule since August 1st.
