Apartment Insurance?

Asked 98 days ago

I went in to the leasing office to inquire about renewing my lease and they told me that the rent has raised $20 a month and now all tenants must get renter's insurance to the tune of a lump sum payment of $139.00. The majority of that money ($110.00) will be returned by deducting that amount from the next month's rent. Has anyone had to pay this insurance?

So if it's an option then go to the apartment manager and tell them you do not want renters ins. and see what they tell you. Look at the lease and let me know if your lease said it was optional? I have been told you must have renters ins. to rent now...period. So good luck renting anywhere and if you don't have it you WILL be evicted and thats that. I really don't care what you do. If you decide to not have it you will carry the burden of your choice. When you have a tornado, hurricane or anything happens and you have nothing left then you will wish you did. Fire, dog bite from neighbors dog and they don't have it, then you pay for the hospital and try to get something from the person who decided not to have it because they thought it was a choice not required. I swear, try not to have ins. and see if you can stay there!!!!

That is total nonsense. I have been living in apartments for years now and I have NEVER been required to pay apartment insurance. It is a 100% option. I don't know what country you are used to living in charlie, but it doesn't sound like America.

I have been living in Legend Oaks for about a year and have never heard of such a thing. That sounds like a complete load of crap to me, not to mention illegal! Renters insurance is an option, and if I were you I would refer to the new lease agreement. If nothing is listed, you do not have to pay it.

I renewed my lease a month ago and I was required to get renters insurance but $113 of it was deducted off this month's rent.
