Is it true everyone is having problems with rats, ants and overall rodent issues? Ceiling and washer and dryer issues?
All the information about these apartments would greatly help me make my final decision. Good and bad responds will help me. This is my first apartment and I thought it was my dream apartment with the food location, walmart and HEB, gym, tennis court, basketball court, swimming pools, etc. I'm also new to the city so any help will be great!!! THANKS!!!

The only decent things about this complex is it's cheap and it's in a good location. No matter how well I dispose of my food, I get ant problems in the summer and fruit fly problems throughout the year. Maintenance cut out parts of my ceiling, and they never finished patching it up. It's been at least 2 years. We have a hole underneath our bathroom sink from it leaking and maintenance promised to fix it, and never did. If you need any work done, I suggest you do it yourself. It will be much faster that way.

RUN. I never had problems with rats, but the roaches are out of control. There were cracks in the wall where they would come out of, and take over the apartment. They were everywhere. Not only was there a roach problem, the staff was HORRIBLE, there was a lack of parking, the area was loud, and there were always police driving through trying to catch someone. Don't ruin your first apartment experience here!

I think you will find problems with any apartment that you will rent. The problems may differ from complex to complex, but there will always be problems.
To be completely honest, my husband and I have lived here over 5 years, and we've had some issues, but overall, it's a good enough place to live. The managers have changed so many times that it's comical, the staff even moreso.
When I find that I have an issue that needs to be taken care of (such as a leak or something they have not finished fixing - as the other person said they did) I email my maintenance request. I then keep a record of each email that I send, and I resend it 1 week later if it's still not completed. Then I will state "this is request #2 for the same issue" or something similar. I've not had any issues that have taken more than a month to be completed. Granted, a month is a long time for some issues. Just keep track, and make sure that you do put in maintenance requests when something goes wrong.
Plus, as to bugs... there are bugs, but I think you'll have that anywhere. I had to invest in some airtight/watertight containers, and that's where I keep all food that doesn't go in the refrigerator, freezer, or isn't canned. It truly keeps the bugs away. As to fruit flies, well... those can be tackled too, by placing a cup with a soap/vinegar mixture in it, and they will go to it, and drown in it. (but, may I point out that houses have bugs too)
We won't live here for the rest of our lives, but we like it well enough to have lived here for over 5 years now. The parking has some issues, but again... it's not that big of a deal. Some neighbors will always be noisy, but that's a part of apartment living, our corridor is really pretty quiet lately... we have some great neighbors too.
The area has pretty much everything that you could want as far as shopping and entertainment. I love the area, and that's part of why we've never moved.
I've never seen a rat here, not even at the trash areas.
Ants are ants, and will get where they can, but they are easily taken care of.
Roaches are what scare me the most, but being a non-native Texan, I had never seen a roach as big as they come here... and they don't discriminate... I've seen them in really expensive homes here too... they're just everywhere! *ick*
I have had some ceiling issues in the past, but they were fixed quickly and well.
They did replace both my washer and dryer when just the dryer stopped working... as both were older, and they just thought that would be best.
I hope that helps you some. =)

Lived there for 2 years and was probably my worst living experience. Run away now. And to answer your question: YES!

Yea, the rent is cheap, but the little you think your saving in rent at IRA, the electric bills, water and garbage bill you have amounts to the extra you would of paid for a nicer and possibly safer place. What it boils down to, your not saving a dime by renting there. In fact, you may be shelling out more in the long run.
On top of the poor staff, the bugs, noise and no parking places we just didn't feel safe living there. The pools and hottub was dirty the whole summer we lived there.
IRA wasn't my first apartment, but I would have to say it was the worst. My family was truly disappointed and we were more than ready to move once our lease was up.
We moved here from out of state and signed the lease without seeing the place in person.(BIG MISTAKE) We went by the attractive pictures on the web and thought it would be okay. Boy, were we ever wrong and mislead.
My advice is to keep looking and forget about this place.

I went by there 2-3 times and saw the apartment model, it looked nice. I mentioned to one of the staff memebers to get the grass cut at the tennis court and basketball area with a few updates on things. Hopefully they will fix that issue before I decide to move there, if I decide to lease there? They said they have new staff now and maintenance 24 hours. I will voice more about my concerns to the staff before I make a final decision. Thank you all for your advice!!! I really appreciate you all for sending me your comments.

I have been here two years, and I have to this point had no problems with rats or ants, but a small roach issue earlier on. They will spray/exterminate as often as you request. Regarding the ceilings, yes there are problems with them. I've had them repair my ceilings, including leaks, and they've done a decent job. They had to replace my washer, but I had no problems with the dryer. It is nasty over here. But it's not the apartment complex as a whole, it's a number of nasty people who live here who will drive right by an empty dumpster and throw their bags of trash from their vehicles onto the ground right next to the empty dumpster. Just nasty and trifling. It is always noisy over here, and people are always fighting. It's like I moved to the ghetto. The police are constantly riding through, but their constant patrols are to no avail. When you move to an area where the rent is affordable to a certain group of people, you will have to endure the habits of those people. The ceilings, washers, rodents and all have nothing to do with why this complex is as bad as it is. It's the people that live here. If you can afford it, move somewhere else, and save yourself the headache.
