How can i break my lease and get out of paying the remaining balance

i ask because i need to move for my job and the leasing office says i need to pay up for the months i wont be here.

In most cases I'd say your leasing office is correct. A lease is a binding legal agreement. One way out is if you can get someone to lease your apartment after you move out. As far as I know they can't collect double-rent on a unit. Or perhaps you can sub-lease where you pay the rental office but the renter pays you.

I broke a lease because I cant live alone and the apartment complex kept my deposit and I payed two months rent after i vacated. However My friend cosigned for me and signed a promisary note stating that she would pay for the fees they charged for breaking the lease and now I am being sued. Can someone help me I have to go to court on the 28th of August. I am unable to obtain an attorney due to medical bills. Some friend. She signed the promisary note not me.
