Can someone give a more objective review of Dixon Mills? -potential buyer

Asked 202 days ago

I'm considering buying a one bedroom condo at Dixon Mills. I believe it is the unit 307A. From reading the reviews, there are mixed opinions about the building. Can someone please clarify a few things?

-What's the mice and leak situation?
-Are there different buildings, or is it just one big place?
-Safety issues.. I read something about a mugging.

Thanks!

I recommend that you visit www.dixonmillsresidents.com where you can chat directly with current tenants and apartment owners.

In general, there are 4 buildings in the complex and they are reffered as A, B, C & D
Unit 307A is probably in building A which is the show-case building.
As for the complaints you have read, most of them were posted by existing/past tenants. Although some of them may be just complaints, many of them are real.
I know that some of the new owners are very happy with their units, however I also know of some that are unhappy. For example one owner discovered that their new washer/Dryer takes about 7 hours to dry a few towels.
I think it is very important that you talk directly with existing residents of DM and get an inside info.
In addition, you may want to hire an inspector, even if it's for your peace of mind.

I hope this helps

I am a current resident of DM (in an apartment, not the newly renovated condos)and have been living there for over 3 years. I can can only give you my experience of living in an apartment units, but YES there are mice in the building. Over the winter I caught 5 in the closet and I caught one as recent as 2 weeks ago on a glue trap. We also experienced some awful leaks for a couple of years because we live on the top floor and the water was leaking through the drain pipe under the deck, causing a flood in a living room. At one point, it was so bad that we lived with a bucket in our living room. This was finally corrected last year - but my opinion is that this was only a surface renovation and there are structural damages that we do not see.

Regarding safety, I am a female and I generally feel safe in the area. But as any other neighborhoods, I always take precautions anyway like taking a cab past midnight and avoiding "dark" streets at night. I personally don't think any area is free of crimes and you just have to use your best judgment and common sense.

Good luck with your condo search!
