HOW OLD SHOULD THE CARPET BE BEFORE BEING CHARGED FOR ANY PARTS OF IT
BECAUSE I LIVED IN TAMAR MEADOWS/ COLUMBIA, MD. AND WAS CHARGED FOR THE WHOLE CARPET IN THE APT BECAUSE OF 3 (12X12) SIZE RED KOOL-AID SPOTS, AND 2 YEARS OF BASIC WALKWAY PATTERN. A GOOD SPOT CLEANING AND A BASIC SHAMPOO AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD ENOUGH TO SAVE. IT HAD BEEN PROFESSIONAL CLEANED BY THEIR COMPANY 13 MONTHS BEFORE I MOVED. THE APARTMENT COMPLEX IS UNDER RENOVATION, MY APARTMENT WAS ALL THE WAY. UP UNTIL THE DAY I WAS MOVING OUT. DO YOU ALL THINK I AM REALLY PAYING FOR THE NEW CARPET THAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED IN THE NEW RENOVATED APT? PLZ HELP ME!LOST IN COLUMBIA

This can change state to state but generally a carpet should be good for 7 years. You should not be responsible for the complete damages of the carpet. Generally it works like this..
Say the carpet was brand new when you moved in. You lived in the apartment for 2 years but ruined the carpet. You would only be responsible for the remaining five years of the carpet or 5/7 of the total cost of the carpet. If the carpet cost $700.00 you would only be responsible for $500.00, the lost amount in damages.
This may be different state to state. Check your local apartment association or call a landlord/tenant law attorney that has a first free consultation.
