When I went to the property management to check into renting I was asked several questions before the woman would give me a credit application. She asked me about my yearly salary. I told her that I am an hourly supervisor and that I make $13.90 per hour plus over-time. She then said that I wouldn't qualify there since she was only going to use my base salary amount. She also said that if I didn't have "perfect" credit, then they would not even consider me for an apartment and told me there was no need for me to even fill out an application since I wouldn't even be approved. I am a white 56 year old women and I felt the descrimination from the minute I walked in the office. I had talked with the manager the week before and had told her what my income is and that I knew I would need to make a substancial deposit. She said there should be no problem that they would be able to get me in. I drove 50 miles round trip to sit down for all of 5 minutes and be discriminated agains.
