I have lived at the Antlers for 2 years and was happy until last week when I got my renewal letter. I even posted a review on here saying it was good. They want to raise my rent again, and after looking at different apartments that are available in the area, and private condos in the same area for rent, the Antlers is no longer competitive. They are totally trying to rip me off! I tried to negotiate with them since last year leases were negotiable but I was told that they have changed their policies and cannot negotiate. I have found a condo in a better community that is renovated for less than they wanted me to pay for my old, not renovated apartment. I would recommend you look for a better deal elsewhere.

To be honest, I do believe the neighborhood is safe and have never had any problems safety wise, and I live alone, a single woman. The grounds are well maintained also. however, I do not believe these apartments are a good value for the money. Also, there is an issue with spiders. I have had them spray my apartment twice recently for spiders and still always find several of them. It's not to the point that I would move just for that, but I am moving because I found a better value somewhere else and they were unwilling to work with me on the rent even though I have been a good resident for 2 years.

There's a ton better places, it's not worth it. It's overpriced for what you get, the neigborhood is getting sketchy, and maintenance is iffy. Keep looking. I hear Auburn Glen is pretty good.

I have NOT lived in The Antlers, however, safety was my TOP priority when I was searching for apts in June. I viewed The Antlers and liked the community/location it was in. Both my father and boyfriend felt like I would be safe in the community (I am moving to attend law school and will be by myself). When deciding, I took the time to see the complex during the day, then come back at night and see it again. At night, I checked to see if all the street lights worked (they seemed to), if there were any people just randomly standing around, etc . . . The complex felt safe - that is just my gut feeling. [I did not go with the Antlers, but went with Waterford at Deerwood instead (just a bit down the road) b/c the price was cheaper, my view was better, etc . . .]

If you are SUPER curious about incidents within the complex, call the Jax Sheriff's office (www.coj.net/jso). They should be able to let you know if/what/when crimes have been committed in the complex and answer further questions you might have. You can also do an online search of any sexual offenders/predators that live at or within radius to the complex: http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/Search.jsp OR http://www.icrimewatch.net/index.php?AgencyID=54115&disc =

I wrote "HORRIBLE! (building code violations)" in the Review section and yes it really is that horrible. From one mother to another (I moved in when my daughter was 15 months old) I would seriously reconsider moving into this place. I think the location makes it safer than many of the other apartments in the area but that's about it. When we were looking at different apartments in the area, the staff seemed really nice and the grounds well maintained. However after moving it just went downhill from there. As stated before, complaints often go unresolved until several complaints later. Also, yes, there is an extraordinary problem with cockroaches and spiders. We had maintenance spray for bugs several times but it didn't seem to do anything [On a side note, I think they contract out for pesticide control because these guys were the only ones that came at the appointed time given...even if their pesticides don't work]. Eventually we bought indoor/outdoor pesticide from a store and sprayed for bugs ourselves. If you plan on staying longer than 1 year they raise your rent astronomically. Like many others have said, after you sign the lease they really don't seem to care anymore.

Yes, the bad reviews are correct. My wife and I lived there for about a year and our experience there was TERRIBLE! Bugs (more on that later), trashy neighbors, the garbage dumpster was always full so people just threw their trash up against it where it stayed for several days and would obviously start stinking, the hot tub was broken during the year we lived there. For several months it was full of green water and trash. The security gate did not work very often. When it did, losers would just pull off to the side until someone came along with a card and they would just follow them right in. There were stray cats everywhere. Management would not do anything about it, the city would not pick them up or have them "fixed" and the animal shelters were all full-which meant they would be put to sleep if they were taken there...a very sad situation. And of course the staff was RUDE! Mostly Linda...

Now to the bugs...

On move in day, I opened the door for the first time and it was like a horror movie inside! There were hundreds of roaches on the floor, ceilings, walls, kitchen cabinets, counter tops, and in the sink. I had never seen anything like it in my life! That trip to the office turned out to be the first of many over the next year. We had to have the apartment sprayed EVERY Friday and we had to buy our own "bombs" to get the infestation under control. (We later found out there were "several" Mexican families living in that apartment at the same just before we moved in). Anyway, I eventually took digital pictures of the bugs and showed them to Linda. I was SCREAMING in her face about! You should have seen the look on her face...She could not have cared less! I think her fake boobs leaked into her brain (and her butt because it really started to get big last summer).

What else...lets see...all of the cabinet doors were falling off the hinges, our dryer vent was clogged because no matter how many different dryers they brought us, none of them would ever dry a load of clothes in less than three cycles.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention...on move out day, we found an ANT PILE behind our dresser in the guest bedroom!!!!!!! A FREAKING ANT PILE!!!!!

Does that answer your question???

I haven't really had any problems here. The area seems to be quiet. I don't hear my neighbors or cars going by. Safety was my main concern while looking for apartments. So far, the staff seems nice to me. We have a renovated apartment and there were a few things that needed to be fixed. I made thework orders and they were out the next day. When we moved in we did have a little problem with a few bugs in the bathroom. But after they sprayed I have not seen them since. I am sure we could of found something a little cheaper but overall I am satisfied.
